April WIPocalypse 2016 check-in

Topic:  What do you listen to while stitching? Sometimes I listen to Pandora radio while stitching.  I created a radio station with random music.  You truly never know what will pop up on my station (pop, rap, Disney, opera, classic rock, do-wop, literally the possibilities are endless...).  However, 95.9% of the time I am listening to an audiobook.  It's a great way to catch up on my TBR (to be read) list (okay, my TBR mountain).  I check out audios from the library or download them to my phone and listen away while I stitch away.  I'm currently listening to This Body of Death by Elizabeth George (from the Inspector Lynley series).

This month, I am currently rotating between Tepee Bears by Bucilla, Mr. Bear by Designs by the Needle, Sugarplum Stocking by Bucilla, Nutcracker Needlepoint by Janlynn, Blue Jean Teddy Quilt by Bucilla, and Christmas By the Letter by Lizzie Kate.  My focus project this month is Fairy of Destiny by Passione Ricamo.

January Theme-a-Licious

This month's theme (from It's Geek to Me's past monthly themes) was January Jardin.  This means I chose a focus piece that had a garden or floral theme.  So I chose to work on my Baby's Garden Quilt kit by Janlynn.  Here's my progress:

Next month's theme is Figural February.

January 2016 WIPocalypse Check-In

Topic:  Introduce yourself, your projects, and any goals you have for the year!

Hello, my name is Jaret.  I love cross stitching a variety of topics and themes.  Really, it's whatever catches my eye at the moment.  I do have a 10-hour rotation that I sort of follow, but I veer off a whole lot when something shiny catches my eye.  (That's probably why I don't ever seem to finish anything!)

My focus project this month is Baby's Garden Quilt by Janlynn.

Rotations Ended

My laptop's motherboard went kapooey and needed to spend some time at the local repair shop.  Just got it back a few days ago and I'm trying to catch up with all of my online groups and stuff.  I did finish a few 10 hour rotations before year's end and finished a project.  Woo hoo!

October Theme-a-licious

This month's theme was Obligation October.  I was supposed to work on a piece that was meant to be a Christmas gift.  Since I'm really not trying to finish anything as a Christmas present, I worked on a piece that is an obligation to myself--Fish City.  I have now officially crossed the halfway mark!

Next month's theme--Nail It November.  I'm supposed to work on a piece that is almost finished and try to complete it this month.  Yeah right!

October WIPocalypse Check-In

Topic:  Are there any fibers or materials used in stitching that you’re nervous to try?

There really isn't anything I'm not willing to try.  Sometimes, I wait until I find the "perfect" project to try a technique, fiber, or fabric, but I eventually find one and try it out.

This month I am working on The Pack by Janlynn, Yesteryear by Needle Treasures, Mr. Bear by Leisure Arts, and Fairy of Destiny by Passione Ricamo.

July WIPocalypse Check-In #2 , August Check-In, and September Check-in

I was unable to post my 2nd July update because school began and things got crazy around here.  So I'm answering three questions this month.

Topic:  What makes you pick up a long-abandoned UFO rather than beginning a new piece?
I have a rotation in place so what makes me pick up a UFO is that it comes up next in my rotation.  I won't start a new piece to add to my rotation until I finish a UFO from the rotation.  I will however skip the rotation and work on a piece constantly until it's done if I have a deadline for it.  Otherwise I just happily plod along.

Topic:  Pick one of the WIP pieces you’ve stitched on this month, and tell us about your stitching journey with the piece.
My stitching journey with Fairy of Destiny began in 2012.  This stitch-a-long was begun in January of 2012 and I received a small section each month to stitch.  I stayed on track for the first 6 months then life got in the way.  Now, 3 years later, I still have 1 1/2 sections left until it's completed.  That's why finishing this project is my goal for this year!

Topic:  Where do you buy most of your stitching supplies?
Unfortunately, there is no needlework shop nearby me anymore.  If I need a quick, handy supply I go to Michael's or JoAnn's craft stores.  For my specialty items, I shop at 123Stitch online.  They provide excellent customer service and they ship things out ASAP.  I have been very pleased with my purchases there, which is great because I HATE shopping online.

This month I am working on The Pack by Janlynn, Yesteryear by Needle Treasures, Mr. Bear by Leisure Arts, and the Fairy of Destiny SAL by Passione Ricamo.
