October Theme-a-licious

This month's theme was Obligation October.  I was supposed to work on a piece that was meant to be a Christmas gift.  Since I'm really not trying to finish anything as a Christmas present, I worked on a piece that is an obligation to myself--Fish City.  I have now officially crossed the halfway mark!

Next month's theme--Nail It November.  I'm supposed to work on a piece that is almost finished and try to complete it this month.  Yeah right!

October WIPocalypse Check-In

Topic:  Are there any fibers or materials used in stitching that you’re nervous to try?

There really isn't anything I'm not willing to try.  Sometimes, I wait until I find the "perfect" project to try a technique, fiber, or fabric, but I eventually find one and try it out.

This month I am working on The Pack by Janlynn, Yesteryear by Needle Treasures, Mr. Bear by Leisure Arts, and Fairy of Destiny by Passione Ricamo.

July WIPocalypse Check-In #2 , August Check-In, and September Check-in

I was unable to post my 2nd July update because school began and things got crazy around here.  So I'm answering three questions this month.

Topic:  What makes you pick up a long-abandoned UFO rather than beginning a new piece?
I have a rotation in place so what makes me pick up a UFO is that it comes up next in my rotation.  I won't start a new piece to add to my rotation until I finish a UFO from the rotation.  I will however skip the rotation and work on a piece constantly until it's done if I have a deadline for it.  Otherwise I just happily plod along.

Topic:  Pick one of the WIP pieces you’ve stitched on this month, and tell us about your stitching journey with the piece.
My stitching journey with Fairy of Destiny began in 2012.  This stitch-a-long was begun in January of 2012 and I received a small section each month to stitch.  I stayed on track for the first 6 months then life got in the way.  Now, 3 years later, I still have 1 1/2 sections left until it's completed.  That's why finishing this project is my goal for this year!

Topic:  Where do you buy most of your stitching supplies?
Unfortunately, there is no needlework shop nearby me anymore.  If I need a quick, handy supply I go to Michael's or JoAnn's craft stores.  For my specialty items, I shop at 123Stitch online.  They provide excellent customer service and they ship things out ASAP.  I have been very pleased with my purchases there, which is great because I HATE shopping online.

This month I am working on The Pack by Janlynn, Yesteryear by Needle Treasures, Mr. Bear by Leisure Arts, and the Fairy of Destiny SAL by Passione Ricamo.

July Theme-a-licious

The monthly theme was Altius August.  I was supposed to stitch toward a goal. My goal for this year is to finish my Fairy of Destiny by Passione Ricamo so I worked on her.  I don't feel like I got much done this month with the start of school.  But every stitch counts!  I did, however, get a cute nutcracker needle minder.  You can check him out in the after picture.  Next month's theme is Smalls September.  I don't have any small projects going so I get to start a new one.  Yippee skippee!

A Finishing Weekend!

I went to Mom's house this weekend to get ready for the Cherry Blossom Quilt Show at the library.  I got a load of work done!  I finished the borders on my Redwork Crane and finished the binding on my Tulip Bouquet and Fleur de Lis placemat.  That's three more finishes this year!

Snowdome Stocking Rotation Finished

I finished my 10-hour rotation on Snowdome Stocking by Donna Kooler.  I finished Santa and his reindeer and the base of the city snowdome.  Lots of sparkles in this one.  Very pretty to see.

Coke Santa Rotation Finished

I finished the 10-hour rotation on my Coke Santa.  As you can see, Bobtail is really proud of his hard work on this one.

I also started re-doing my bag tags.  The other ones I made did not last.  These have reinforced holes, so hopefully they'll do much better.

July WIPocalypse Check-in #1

Topic:  Reality or Fantasy. Which do you prefer to stitch? Figures or Abstract?
I prefer to stitch fantasy motifs.  My favorite things to stitch are fairies and mermaids.  I also like dragons and anything Halloween or fall-themed.  I prefer stitching figures to abstract objects.  I like to be able to recognize what I have accomplished.

This month I am working on Coke Santa by Stoney Creek, Yesteryear by Needle Treasures, Snowdome Stocking by Donna Kooler, and the Fairy of Destiny SAL by Passione Ricamo.  I did not stitch on my Fairy of Destiny and Yesteryear is new to my rotation this month.

Noah's Ark Rotation

I finished my 10-hour rotation on Noah's Journey by Dimensions.  I stitched a lot on the ark itself and finished a bit of backstitching and wording at the bottom of the design.

Next in the rotation is Yesteryear.

June Theme-a-licious

The monthly theme was Jumanji June.  I was supposed to stitch on an animal-themed piece.  So I stitched on my kit, The Pack.  This is an interesting design.  There are no partial stitches or backstitching.  The entire design is cross stitch.  I got a lot of stitching done this month.  Don't know what got into me, but I kinda like it.

Next month's theme is Jolly July.  I need to pick one of my many Christmas-themed projects for some Christmas in July time.

June WIPocalypse Check In

Topic: Do you find yourself more productive with stitching in summer or winter?

This  is an easy question.  I am definitely more productive in summer simply because my break is longer.  I am a school teacher so I have more time in the summer to have fun.  I have trainings to go to and things that must be done for work, but I'm not on a 7:30-4 schedule like I am the rest of the year.

This month I am working on Coke Santa by Stoney Creek, Noah's Journey by Dimensions, Snowdome Stocking by Donna Kooler, and the Fairy of Destiny SAL by Passione Ricamo.  I did not accomplish anything on my Fairy of Destiny this month.  :0(

May Theme-a-Licious

May's theme was May Memories.  So I worked on Mason's birth announcement.  I got a huge amount done in the home stretch!  The entire top half is finished, I just need to finish stitching  the bottom and back stitch the ark.

Next month's theme is Jumanji June.  I'm supposed to pick a project that has animals of some sort on it.

April Theme-a-licious

Last month's theme was Amazon April.  I was supposed to stitch on a BAP this month.  So, of course, I stitched on Fish City.  I don't have a bigger project than that one!  I was able to finish down to the last few rows at the bottom.  I even finished the bottom left corner completely (just needs to be backstitched).

This month's theme is May Memories.  I think I'll work on one of my many birth announcements.  Got to finish a few before the babies graduate high school!

April WIPocalypse Check In

Topic:  Which specialty stitches do you love doing on projects?  Which do you dread?
I love working on most specialty stitches.  Anything different to break up the monotony is fun!  I guess if I had to pick one, it would be the rice stitch.  I hate doing French knots, though.  I can never keep them consistent.  One knot will be huge, another will be tiny, and another will be the right size.  No matter how much I practice, I never get them looking similar much less the same.  I try to replace them with seed beads as often as I can get away with it.

This month I am working on Coke Santa by Stoney Creek, Noah's Journey by Dimensions, Snowdome Stocking by Donna Kooler, Fish City by Stoney Creek, and the Fairy of Destiny SAL by Passione Ricamo.

Pooh Sampler rotation finished

I finished my 10 hour rotation on Too Much Honey, a sampler kit by Janlynn.  I did a lot of backstitch work at the bottom and finished the cross stitching on Eeyore, Tigger, and Pooh.  I just need to finish the background, backstitching and the alphabet at the top.  Not too much left!

Finished!

I finished my Coke Bears piece for Momma.  This is the final piece in the Coca Cola Polar Bears series so now she has them all stitched up (you're welcome, mom).

March WIPocalypse Check In

Topic:  If money and time were not limiters, I would buy sampler kits from Victoria Sampler.  I would love to have more of her samplers, gingerbread house kits, and the country kits designed by Thea Gouverneur.  I would also finish collecting patterns from my favorite designer, Nora Corbett.  I would purchase missing patterns from both her Nora Corbett and Mirabilia lines.

This month I am working on Coke Bears by Stoney Creek, Noah's Journey by Dimensions, Too Much Honey by Leisure Arts, and the Fairy of Destiny SAL by Passione Ricamo.

February Theme-a-Licious

The theme for February was Fangirl.  Since my favorite designer is Nora Corbett, I worked on Sabrina.  Here's a picture of the progress I made in February.

The theme for March is March Madness.  This means you work on a different piece each day.  Since I have a rotation system, this happens anyway.  So I'm going to work on my Passione Ricamo fairy as my focus piece in March.
